I have more information about the Lockerbie Flight 103 terrorist bombers.
I think there are two people whop were in the reigate Redhill area the day before the bombing. These people may have had contact with the terrorists although to what extent they knew about the bomb i have not defined.
One person went into a post office on or around the 20th December 1988 and deposited/cashed a giro cheque.

Indonesia, oficialmente la República de Indonesia (en indonesio: Republik Indonesia, en holandes: Republiek van Indonesia), es un gran archipiélago compuesto de 17.508 islas, ubicado entre la península del Sudeste Asiático y Australia, entre los océanos Índico y Pacífico. Indonesia comparte fronteras con Malasia en la isla de Borneo, con Papúa Nueva Guinea la isla de Nueva Guinea y con Timor Oriental la isla de Timor. Indonesia tiene aproximadamente 6.000 islas habitadas y la longitud de sus costas alcanza los 80.000 Km.

Origen y prehistoria

El territorio indonesio ha estado habitado por lo menos desde hace 500.000 años antes de Cristo. El más antiguo conocido es el llamado "Hombre de Java", una forma de Homo erectus. Hace unos 60.000 años, los antepasados de los actuales papúes migraron al este entre las islas indonesias, llegando a Papúa Nueva Guinea y Australia hace entre 30 y 40.000 años. Entre 5 y 4.000 a. C. los siguieron los antepasados de los actuales malayos, javaneses y otros grupos malayos y polinesios que, entre todos, conformaron la población indonesia actual.

Los contactos comerciales con India, China y otras partes del sudeste asiático llevaron a Indonesia diferentes influencias culturales y religiosas. Los primeros imperios fueron de raíz india, como el de Sriwijaya en la costa de Sumatra y frente al Estrecho de Malaca, en una posición estratégica para dominar la red comercial de todo el archipiélago. Los Sriwijaya florecieron hace más de un milenio.

Los reinos indios y musulmanes

En la isla vecina de Java sucedieron enormes reinos que demostraron su capacidad para edificar grandes monumentos religiosos como el Borobudur, que es el mayor templo budista del mundo. El último y más poderoso de estos reinos indio-javaneses fue el Imperio Majapahit, del siglo XVI, que conquistó la mayor parte del actual territorio indonesio. Los majapahit se relacionaron comercialmente con lugares muy lejanos como la costa occidental de Nueva Guinea.

Muy pronto comenzaron a aparecer indios musulmanes que se desperdigaron por todas las islas a partir de los siglos VIII y IX. Para los tiempos de Marco Polo (siglo XIII), ya existían estados islámicos, establecidos, que exportaron sus creencias a los reinos de la costa norte de Java, conquistando a los Majapahit indios. Como consecuencia de las conversiones sucesivas, hoy Indonesia ha pasado a ser el país con mayor población musulmana de todo el mundo. En el siglo XIII los mongoles intentaron invadir la isla de Java sin exito.

Cuando los europeos llegaron a comienzos del siglo XVI, el país se componía de numerosos pequeños estados. Estos eran vulnerables a los colonizadores, quienes buscaban dominar el comercio de especias y controlar los estrechos con fines estratégicos navales. Los portugueses comenzaron a interesarse en el comercio de especias indonesias a partir de 1511, hasta que los holandeses se convirtieron en sus competidores y establecieron la Compañía de las Indias Orientales, que consiguió imponer un monopolio del comercio de las especies, el azúcar y el café. Para el siglo XIX, esta empresa neerlandesa controlaba el 75% de la producción mundial de estos productos.

Tras abolirse la "Compañía Holandesa del Este de la India", las posesiones del archipiélago malayo en Indonesia cayeron directamente bajo soberanía holandesa.

Siglo XX

Para comienzos del siglo XX, el hartazgo de la población por más de tres siglos de dominación holandesa comenzaba a desestabilizar a la colonia.

Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Indonesia fue ocupada por el Imperio del Japón, y, concluido el conflicto, surgieron guerrillas nacionalistas, cuyo objetivo era lograr la independencia.

La República de Indonesia se independizó el 17 de agosto de 1945 y obtuvo su soberanía cuatro años más tarde.

Los primeros 20 años de independencia se vieron dominados por la carismática figura de Sukarno, uno de los líderes nacionalistas que había pasado mucho tiempo en una prisión holandesa. Durante su gobierno se inició la promoción de un espíritu de nacionalismo indonesio que fue promulgado dentro del marco de los Cinco Principios (Pancasila) que son: La creencia en un solo Dios, Humanitarianismo, Unidad Nacional, Democracia y Justicia Social. Pancasila continua siendo la base ideológica del estado Indonesio.

Suharto

Mediante un golpe de estado, el 30 de septiembre de 1965, el general Suharto tomó el poder e impuso una durísima represión sobre el Partido Comunista de Indonesia, muriendo más de medio millón de sus militantes y simpatizantes, y encarcelando a cerca de un millón de ellos. Las listas de sospechosos comunistas fueron supuestamente proporcionadas por la CIA. Suharto se hizo con el control de las fuerzas armadas en 1965 y gobernó el país durante treinta y dos años, reprimiendo enérgicamente a los disidentes y apoyado por el gobierno norteamericano en los momentos más álgidos de la Guerra Fría. Se estima que las víctimas durante su sangriento ascenso al poder -de 1965 a 1968- van de las 78 mil, según cifras oficiales, a un millón, según los historiadores norteamericanos Barbara Harff y Ted Robert Gurr, que han publicado libros sobre la historia de Indonesia. Fue la peor masacre en la historia moderna del sudeste asiático, después de los campos de la muerte de los Khmer Rouge en Camboya. Suharto dio un gran impulso a las exportaciones indonesias de petróleo en la década de 1970. Sin embargo, la crisis enconómica que azotó al sudeste asiático en 1997 paralizó la economía indonesia, mientras la rupia perdía hasta el 70% de su valor anterior.

Al año siguiente, Suharto se vio obligado a renunciar después de 32 años de gobierno, y fue reemplazado por Jusuf Habibie, después de una gran conmoción política, enfrentamientos y motines. La primera elección democrática fue celebrada en octubre de 1999, ganando la presidencia Abdurrahman Wahid.

Actualmente (2006) el país tiene diversos problemas de unificación territorial por motivos como conflictos religiosos internos, zonas con un pasado colonial diferente, o el incipiente nacionalismo independentista de algunas regiones, algo normal en un área tan extensa con unas 6.000 islas habitadas, con tantas etnias singulares sin ningún nexo territorial.

Gobierno y política de Indonesia

Indonesia es una república presidencial, y un estado unitario con el poder concentrado en el gobierno nacional. El Presidente de Indonesia es elegido directamente durante un periodo de cinco años, y es el jefe de Estado, el Comandante en Jefe de las fuerzas armadas indonesias y es responsable del gobierno de interior, la creación de políticas y los asuntos exteriores.

El poder ejecutivo recae sobre el presidente y sus asesores. El parlamento indonesio es bicameral, constituido por el congreso popular y la asamblea popular representativa, cada una electa en términos de cinco años. El sistema político es sistema bipartidista. En las elecciones legislativas del 9 de abril de 2009 concurrían 38 partidos. Los principales son: el Partido Democrático del presidente Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, el Partido Democrático Para la Lucha de la ex presidenta Megawati Sukarnoputri y el partido Golkar, antigua plataforma electoral del dictador Suharto.

Geografía

Con 1.904.569 km²,[11]​ Indonesia es el decimosexto país del mundo por superficie y su densidad de población de 120,5 hab/km² lo sitúa en el puesto 98 en el mundo.

Las 17.508 islas de Indonesia, de las cuales unas 6.000 están habitadas,[12]​ están esparcidas cerca del ecuador, dándole al país un clima tropical. Las islas más pobladas son Java, Sumatra, Borneo (compartida con Malasia y Brunéi) y Célebes. Indonesia hace frontera con Malasia en la isla de Borneo (indonesio: Kalimantan), Papúa Nueva Guinea en la isla de Nueva Guinea y Timor Oriental en la isla de Timor. Además de la capital Yakarta, las ciudades principales incluyen Surabaya, Bandung, Medan, Palembang y Semarang.

Economía

Indonesia sufrió grandes problemas económicos a finales de los años 1990, pero la economía se ha reestabilizado recientemente.

El país cuenta con extensos recursos naturales como petróleo, gas natural, cobre y oro. Su agricultura produce principalmente arroz, té, café, especias y goma. También son muy importantes las maderas tropicales, de las que Indonesia es un gran productor y exportador. Desgraciadamente, gran parte de la tala no está controlada, con las consecuencias que ello acarrea. También son grandes exportadores de bovinos y cabras.

La industria de bienes de consumo es también muy importante, produciendo a gran escala productos para exportación. Destacan el sector textil y el de la electrónica.

Los mayores socios comerciales de Indonesia son Japón, los Estados Unidos y naciones vecinas como Singapur, Malasia y Australia.

En mayo de 2008 se desvinculó de la Organización de Países Productores de Petróleo.[13]​

Demografía

En el año 2007 Indonesia tiene una población de 245.452.739 habitantes que lo convierte en el cuarto país más poblado del mundo. La esperanza de vida es de 70 años. El 87,9% de la población esta alfabetizada. El promedio de hijos por mujer es de 2,38.

Las dos ciudades más grandes de Indonesia están en Java: Yakarta, con una población de 8.222.515 habitantes (censo de 1990), es la capital y el principal centro comercial. Otras ciudades importantes de Java son Surabaya (2.473.272 hab.), Bandung (2.056.915) y Semarang (1.249.230).

En Sumatra, se encuentra la ciudad de Medan, la capital de la provincia de Sumatra septentrional, con una población (1990) de 1.730.052 habitantes, y Palembang, en el sur, con 1.140.918 habitantes. Ujung Pandang (antigua Makasar), en Célebes, cuenta con 944.372 habitantes y Banjarmasin, en Borneo, con 480.737 habitantes.

La isla de Java con un área de solamente 132.000 km², está habitada por 114 millones de personas lo cual representa una densidad de población de 864 personas por kilómetro cuadrado y la convierte en uno de los lugares más densamente poblados del mundo. Si Java fuera un país independiente, sería el segundo país más denso del mundo, después de Bangladesh.

Cultura

Las formas de arte en Indonesia han sido influenciadas por diversas culturas. Las famosas danzas javanesas y balinesas, por ejemplo, contienen aspectos de la cultura y mitología hindú.

También resultan conocidos los espectáculos de teatro de sombras wayang kulit de Java, donde se representan diversos eventos mitológicos.

En el libro Max Havelaar, el autor holandés Multatuli criticó el trato holandés hacia los indonesios, lo que le otorgó atención en todo el mundo.

Religión

Aproximadamente un 80% de la población indonesia profesa la religión Islámica, lo que convierte a Indonesia en la mayor nación musulmana del mundo. El 20% restante se divide entre católicos, protestantes, budistas e hinduístas. En números marginales, sobre todo en zonas remotas de Borneo y la Papúa indonesia, existen creencias animistas.
