In the modern buildings,where more opportunity for imaginationand originality was offered, an effort was made at all times to keep the fixtures simpleand in harmony with the architecturaltreatment. With one or two exceptions in the earlierbuildings the architects were called upon todesign and select the draperies for the vari-ous main rooms. This was worked out inconnection with the color studies of the in-dividual rooms. In this manner a unifiedand harmonious whole was planned. It is gratifying to note how jealouslyproud each community is of its own build-ing. It is also interesting to note the pop-ularity of these buildings, not only forveterans activities but for public functions.In a much larger degree, especially in thesmaller communities, these Memorials aretaking the place of the old town hall andare being made an integral part of the com-munity life.
