The art department isimmediately beneath the roof of the building, which is accessible, and admirablyadapted to outdoor photography, especially speed work when the object is inmotion. Portable lights are available for small flaishlight pictures when the mem-bers of the staff are required to do interior work away from the building, and anautomobile is provided for their exclusive use. There are numerous occasions when newspaper photographers are requiredto perform miracles of speed, especially on such occasions as the arrival of dis-tinguished visitors to the city, accidents, mid-day parades and gigantic assemblies.Then of all times the photographers appreciate their advantages. Their presentrecord is the development of six plates and the making of four enlargements intwenty minutes—a practical demonstration of the fact that esthetic surroundingshave not reduced the efficiency of the artists.
