Bury Tomorrow are a five piece British melodic metalcore band formed in 2006 in Southampton, Hampshire, England. The band is composed of lead vocalist Daniel Winter-Bates, rhythm guitarist and singer Jason Cameron, bassist Davyd Winter-Bates, drummer Adam Jackson and lead guitarist Kristan Dawson, who replaced founding guitarist Mehdi Vismara in 2013. Bury Tomorrow have released four studio albums, their most recent being Earthbound, released on 29 January 2016.

Portraits (2006–2010)[editar]

The band was formed in 2006 in Hampshire, England, with their initial line up consisting of rhythm guitarist and clean vocalist Jason Cameron, drummer Adam Jackson, unclean vocalist Daniel Winter-Bates, bassist Davyd Winter-Bates (his brother) and lead guitarist Mehdi Vismara.[1]​ The band – despite reading in press that "metalcore" had become a dirty word of such – was adamant to prove that metalcore was still relevant.[2]​ Davyd Winter-Bates has said comment on their interest to the style by saying "since day one we have been really proud and vocal about calling ourselves metalcore".[2]​ In 2007 they self-released their debut EP The Sleep of the Innocents.[1]​ Their debut album Portraits was released through Basick Records in Britain on October 2009.[3]​ Two music videos were shot to support the release of the album but only one, "You and I", was broadcast on music channels. "You and I"'s music video was recorded at Southampton Solent University and featured Bury Tomorrow performing to 200 fans, the video was shot over the course of two days, with the second day focusing on the band performing. "You and I" was broadcast on MTV2 in the United States, Scuzz in the United Kingdom and on Much Music in Canada.[4]​ Portraits was then released through Artery Recordings on March 2010 in Japan and the United States.[3]​ Bury Tomorrow toured continuously over the course of 2010, touring across the United States, Europe and Japan.[5]​ In their tours in 2010 the band supported Asking Alexandria, Of Mice and Men, Sleeping With Sirens, Pierce the Veil.[2]​

The Union of Crowns (2011–2013)[editar]

En 2011 el conjunto se vio bajo gran presión por parte de la discográfica americana Artery Recordings, que un principio quería convencerlos de trasladarse y basarse en los Estados Unidos.[6]​ Sin embargo los integrantes sintieron que la discográfica trataba de manipularlos y transformarlos en algo que no eran[7]​ al incorporar más elementos electrónicos en su estilo musical.[2]​ Cuando descartaron el traslado a Estados Unidos, debido a su falta de experiencia en el país,[6]​ la comunicación entre el conjunto y la discográfica se vio mermada. Además el conjunto perdió a sus discográficas en Norteamérica y Japón debido a una serie de emails, así como su agente estadounidense.[7]​ La única persona que permaneció de su lado fue su agente Británico, quien dijo :”Nadie los quiere tocar. Ni siquiera hay bandas que nos quieran llevar de tour.”[7]​ La banda contaba con tan poco dinero que ni siquiera podían permitirse grabar en estudio su nuevo álbum escrito en 2011.[7]​ Su agente consiguió que pudieran presentarse en el Slam Dunk Festival y el Ghostfest en Leeds.[2]​ En ese punto los integrantes de Bury Tomorrow tenían tan poca confianza en el futuro del conjunto que pensaron que estos serían sus últimos espectáculos.[7]​

Sus presentaciones en estos festivales fueron bien recibidas por sus fans, lo cual restauró una buena parte de su confianza perdida.[8]​ En Ghost Fest, Bury Tomorrow conoció a su futuro manager, quien sugirió que olvidaran el álbum que habían escrito. en vez, compusieron y grabaron “Lionheart”, el primer sencillo de lo que posteriormente se convertiría en su segundo álbum. Este fue lanzado en el 8 de septiembre de 2011[8]​ y fue acompañado por un video musical lanzado el 13 de septiembre. Bury Tomorrow apoyo a la banda británica de metalcore While She Sleeps el 9 de octubre,[9]​[10]​ con una gira titular en Gran Bretaña el 11 de diciembre.[11]​ El 6 de diciembre, 2 dias antes de empezar con la gira, lanzaron un video de su sencillo “Royal Blood”, dirigido por Thomas Welsh. “Royal Blood” fue posteriormente transmitida por Radio 1 durante la programación diurna en vísperas de Navidad.[8]​

Bury Tomorrow pasó los primeros meses de 2012 grabando su segundo álbum, dedicando pocas fechas de gira en la primera mitad del 2012 para apoyar el nuevo lanzamiento. Desde el 18 de marzo, apoyaron a Of Mice And Men presentándose en Southampton’s Takedown Festival[12]​ they went on to support Of Mice & Men y Hit The Deck Festival el 13 de abril.[13]​ También hicieron apariciones en el Greenfield Festival el 17 de Junio y en Ghostfest en Leeds el 20 de Junio de 2014.[14]​ El 14 de Abril Bury Tomorrow anunció que habían firmado para asistir a Nuclear Blast, además de confirmar la portada, lista de canciones y fecha de lanzamiento de su nuevo álbum: The Union Of Crowns. El conjunto declaró que el poder trabajar con la nueva discográfica les permitió grabar de la manera que querían, lo cual hubiera sido imposible con su discográfica anterior, Artery Records.[15]​ El álbum fue grabado en Ridgway Sound Studio ubicado en Wantage. Se lanzaron 2 sencillos para promocionar The Union Of Crowns: “An Honourable Reign”, que debutó en BBC Radio 1[17]​ y “Knight Life”.[18]​ En el Reino Unido el álbum obtuvo la posición 6 en el Rock and Metal Chart,[19]​ mientras que en los Estados Unidos alcanzó el puesto 25 Top Heatseekers Chart. El álbum vendió 1,062 copias en la primera semana de lanzamiento.[20]​ Bury Tomorrow se presentó en una fecha única el 10 de julio en Camden Underworld apoyando a I Killed The Prom Queen en su gira por Europa,[21]​ antes de hacer una aparición en el Heavy Music Festival a principios de agosto.[22]​ También hicieron una gira por Gran Bretaña con Architects, Deez Nuts y The Acacia Strain en noviembre. A finales de Enero de 2013 el conjunto anunció que su guitarrista principal Mehdi Vismara había abandonado Bury Tomorrow y que Kristan Dawson asumiría la posición. Runes and Earthbound (2014–present)[editar]

On January 6, 2014, Bury Tomorrow announced the release of a third studio album, titled Runes, on May 26 through Nuclear Blast, as well as the release of an exclusive track from the album, titled "Watcher", which premiered on the Radio 1 Rock Show at midnight on the 6th of January.[31]​ They also announced a headline European tour with Chunk! No, Captain Chunk!,[32]​ Demoraliser and Napoleon, taking place in May.[33]​ The music video for the first single from Runes titled "Man on Fire" was released on 25 February,[34]​ followed on 13 May by "Of Glory".[35]​ The album itself was made available for exclusive streaming by Rocksound on 21 May 2014 a few days before its release on May 26.[36]​ By 1 June 2014 it had reached number 1 on the official UK Rock chart and number 34 in the official UK Album chart.[cita requerida] Later in June the band announced another European headline tour, set for October,[37]​ with support from Hands Like Houses, In Hearts Wake and Slaves. In February 2015, they toured the UK with Don Broco, We Are the In Crowd and Beartooth as part of that year's Kerrang! Tour.[38]​

While performing at Slam Dunk North 2015, Bury Tomorrow announced that they had just finished working on their fourth full-length album, but did not reveal when it will be released.[39]​ At Reading and Leeds Festival 2015, they debuted the first song from the album.[cita requerida] On 1 November, they officially released the song, titled "Earthbound" and accompanied by a music video.[40]​ Their fourth album, also titled Earthbound, will be released worldwide on 29 January 2016 via Nuclear Blast.[cita requerida] On February 15th 2016, Bury Tomorrow signed to UPRAWR Music Publishing[41]​

Musical style[editar]

Bury Tomorrow have primarily been described as a melodic metalcore band[30]​[42]​[43]​[44]​ but have also being classified as post-hardcore.[1]​ AllMusic writer Gregory Heaney summarised their style by saying: "Offsetting layers of pleasant, atmospheric melody with sudden bursts of chugging heaviness, the band uses its breakdowns to create a brooding, moody effect, as if the songs are lurching into a fit when provoked from their somber ruminations."[1]​ Daniel Winter-Bates has noted that he likes the diverse style the band possesses, as it allows them to go "heavier" and "lighter" with ease.[45]​

The band has referred to older metalcore bands as their primary source of influence, with Metal Hammer journalist Merlin Alderslade commenting on their style by saying "the quintet's blend of fierce, melodic death metal-inspired riffage [sic] and gloriously anthematic choruses was seen as of the crowning achievements of a new generation of metal bands that had been weaned on a diet of The End of Heartache, Waking the Fallen and Reroute To Remain".[7]​ Prior to the release of their third album, Runes, Bury Tomorrow have said that it is going to be more technical, "old school" and in line with artists like As I Lay Dying and Killswitch Engage than their previous releases.[25]​
